Smackdown Live Digitals

Jeff Hardy def. United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura by disqualification; Orton Viciously Attacked Hardy Once Again
Coming in as focused as he promised, Jeff Hardy took the fight to Shinsuke Nakamura as he attempted to regain the United States Title in this WWE Extreme Rules rematch. With the playing field leveled (unlike Sunday), the Superstars exchanged stiff strikes at a dizzying pace to stake their claim to the title.

In the pivotal moments, Jeff seemed to have Nakamura down for the count after hitting him with a picture-perfect Swanton Bomb. However, outta nowhere, Randy Orton arrived, broke up Jeff’s pin attempt and started savagely assaulting him to give The Charismatic Enigma the disqualification win.

A wounded Hardy attempted to fight back, but The Apex Predator overwhelmed the former United States Champion, stomping his skull into the steel steps. Then, in a very disturbing scene, The Viper attempted to rip the piercing out of Hardy’s ear, extensively stretching his earlobe. The Viper then threw Hardy over the announcer’s table and continued the assault. WWE personnel ran down to try to stop Orton’s attack, but Randy concluded the beating by DDT’ing Hardy off the table, as Nakamura just watched on from a distance.

WWE Extreme Rules Digitals

Shinsuke Nakamura def. Jeff Hardy to become the new United States Champion; Randy Orton attacked Hardy after the match
Jeff Hardy’s United States Title reign ended in shocking fashion at WWE Extreme Rules, as The Charismatic Enigma suffered a demoralizing, near-immediate U.S. Title loss to Shinsuke Nakamura before another foe made his presence known after the bout.

The opening bell hadn’t even rung before The King of Strong Style made his move on Hardy, flooring the champion with his signature move — the low blow — behind the ref’s back. Hardy struggled to his feet and insisted on starting the match, only to suffer an instant Kinshasa that snapped his reign and landed Nakamura the first championship of his WWE tenure.

Nakamura’s celebration was cut short by the arrival of recent U.S. Champion Randy Orton, but while The Apex Predator appeared to be sizing up Nakamura, he surprised the Pittsburgh faithful by turning his attention to Hardy and administering a punishing stomp to the nether regions before making his exit. Jeff Hardy was a proud, confident champion, but life didn’t just come at him fast at WWE Extreme Rules. It came out of nowhere.

Backlash 2018 Digitals

United States Champion Jeff Hardy def. Randy Orton
The Jeff Hardy comeback tour rolls on, as The Charismatic Enigma dispatched Randy Orton to retain his United States Title at WWE Backlash, capping a rivalry that has been tenser than anticipated, even though Hardy and Orton have only been on each other’s radars for a short period of time.

Ever since Hardy supplanted Jinder Mahal as U.S. Champion, Orton — who had already invoked his rematch clause after losing the title to Mahal at WrestleMania — has been seemingly overlooked by The Charismatic Enigma. Having reminded Hardy of his skills with an RKO after a tag team match on SmackDown LIVE, The Viper opened the WWE Backlash contest with another display of ruthless efficiency, targeting the champion’s lumbar with a trifecta of backdrops onto the barricade. The veteran Orton was clearly hoping to slow Hardy down and turn the match into the kind of drawn-out beatdown that typically precedes the RKO.

Even when Hardy fought to quicken the pace, the threat of the RKO loomed large. The Charismatic Enigma had to stop cold to avoid the maneuver at one point, allowing The Apex Predator to reclaim the advantage, though the champion was more familiar with Orton’s playbook than he let on. Hardy took a page out of his challenger’s repertoire, surprising Orton with a Twist of Fate and following up with an immediate Swanton Bomb to retain his title.

Even for Randy Orton, it seems, defeat can come from out of nowhere.

Smackdown Live Digitals

Randy Orton & Jeff Hardy def. The Miz & Shelton Benjamin
After the flurry of activity that occurred on “Miz TV,” SmackDown LIVE General Manager Paige declared that Randy Orton would team up with Jeff Hardy to square off against The Miz & Shelton Benjamin right then and there.

Despite the slight bit of uneasiness between the two earlier in the night, Orton & Hardy gelled well, working in unison to overcome the offensive onslaught that Miz and Benjamin brought their way. In the match’s pivotal moment, Randy Orton went on an absolute tear, hitting both Shelton and Miz with everything in his arsenal (including a ring-rattling RKO to Shelton), leading to Jeff Hardy defeating Shelton with the Swanton Bomb.

However, the good vibes did not last long, as The Apex Predator dropped The Charismatic Enigma with an RKO after the contest, sending a message that he still had Jeff’s championship in his crosshairs.

Smackdown Live Results

Shelton Benjamin def. Randy Orton
Last week on SmackDown LIVE, Shelton Benjamin was set to begin a new chapter in his WWE career by asking for a big challenge. Shelton was surprised to see Randy Orton answer the call to be his opponent, but The Viper got a surprise of his own when the newest member of SmackDown LIVE, United States Champion Jeff Hardy, interrupted to answer Benjamin’s challenge first.

Tonight, it appeared Hardy and Benjamin would run it back in a rematch, but The Charismatic Enigma got a dose of his own medicine when The Apex Predator interrupted Hardy’s entrance, almost as a signal to suggest that he was getting him back for last week, taking Hardy’s place in this match.

The United States Champion remained at ringside as Randy and Shelton battled it out on the blue brand. During the match, the two Superstars took the fight to the outside when a masked man suddenly clipped Jeff Hardy’s knee. To avoid security, the culprit darted into the ring, and Orton caught him and removed the mask to reveal Sunil Singh, who tried to plead with The Viper, only for Randy to connect with an RKO, taking out Jinder Mahal’s faithful follower.

This interference would prove costly though, Benjamin took advantage by dropping The Apex Predator with Paydirt for the win.

Smackdown Live Digitals

Jeff Hardy (United States Champion) def. Shelton Benjamin
With his now former tag team partner, Chad Gable, having been moved to Raw via the Superstar Shake-up, Shelton Benjamin threw some shade his old partner’s way and then looked to make a major solo impression on the blue brand by calling out anyone on the roster to face him tonight.

First out was Randy Orton, clearly looking to silence Benjamin. However, before The Apex Predator could make it to the ring, he was interrupted by the new United States Champion and the newest SmackDown LIVE acquisition via the Superstar Shake-up, Jeff Hardy!

Benjamin and Hardy tore the house down with a thrilling contest that had the WWE Universe on its feet. After several back-and-forth exchanges, The Charismatic Enigma topped Benjamin with a Twist of Fate and the Swanton Bomb to claim the win in his first night back on the blue brand.

Randy Orton def. Bobby Roode and Rusev to challenge United States Champion Jinder Mahal at WWE Backlash
Following the Fatal 4-Way Match that saw Jinder Mahal capture the United States Championship at WrestleMania 34, the three Superstars who fell just short of walking away with the title this past Sunday faced off in a Triple Threat Match on SmackDown LIVE with the winner gaining the opportunity to face Mahal for the championship at WWE Backlash.

With The Modern Day Maharaja watching on from a chair at ringside, the three Superstars picked up right where they left off on Sunday. After close calls at victory for all three Superstars and high-impact moments like Rusev and Orton each slamming the other onto the announcer’s table, The Viper hit the RKO outta nowhere on Roode, allowing The Viper to grab the W and rekindle his epic rivalry with Mahal with the United States Title on the line at WWE Backlash.

Wrestlemania XXXIV Digitals

Jinder Mahal def. Randy Orton, Rusev and Bobby Roode to win the United States Championship
It seemed WrestleMania was going to be the happiest of Rusev Days with The Bulgarian Brute prevailing in the Fatal 4-Way Match for the United States Title. Instead, Jinder Mahal spoiled the holiday, as his flunky Sunil Singh created the distraction The Modern Day Maharaja needed to secure the victory and claim the U.S. Championship.

Mahal, Rusev, incumbent titleholder Randy Orton and Bobby Roode wasted no time letting both fists and high-impact maneuvers fly in equal measure. The Super Athlete impressed early, toppling his competition with a rolling dive off the apron, while The Viper delivered a ring-rattling Superplex to Roode.

Orton then went on an RKO-spree, derailing Rusev’s associate Aiden English, Rusev himself and Mahal with the outta-nowhere maneuver before The Glorious One could come in to curtail Orton’s chance at victory.

However, just when it looked like The Bulgarian Brute had a chance to walk out of WrestleMania as United States Champion by locking The Modern Day Maharaja in the Accolade, a diversion by Sunil Singh led to The Super Athlete being struck with the Khallas. With that, Mahal became the grinch who stole Rusev Day — and your new United States Champion.

Rusev def. Jinder Mahal; RKO out of Nowhere to Aiden English
Following the bombshell decision that Rusev would be added to the United States Title Match at WrestleMania — making it a Fatal 4-Way — two former allies met in the ring this week, as The Bulgarian Brute faced off against The Modern Day Maharaja on SmackDown LIVE.

Sunil Singh backed up Jinder Mahal, while Aiden English patrolled Rusev’s corner, and Bobby Roode added guest commentary. Both laid it all on the line while seeking a monumental victory heading into The Show of Shows this Sunday. In the pivotal moments, The Super Athlete bested The Modern Day Maharaja with a pinpoint Machka Kick for the win.

Rusev’s celebration would be short-lived, as United States Champion Randy Orton slid into the ring and struck The Bulgarian Brute with a thunderous RKO. In turn, Aiden English attempted to come to Rusev’s aid, first putting the boots to Orton and then by going up to the second rope, clearly ready to pounce on The Viper. However, The Glorious One hopped onto the apron and pushed The Mozart of Mayhem right into The Apex Predator, who was waiting with yet another RKO outta nowhere.

Roode and Orton then faced off, both clearly fired up for the United States Title Match this Sunday, and The Glorious One showed his respect for The Viper by handing him the star-spangled championship.

Jinder Mahal & Rusev def. Randy Orton & Bobby Roode
For Randy Orton to retain his United States Title at WrestleMania, he will need to outlast both Bobby Roode and Jinder Mahal in what is sure to be a hard-hitting Triple Threat Match, but The Viper teamed with The Glorious One tonight to take on Mahal & Rusev, who took the place of the injured Sunil Singh.

Despite a few disagreements in the early goings, Orton & Roode did their best to work in tandem against their common enemy. Mahal exploited the uneasy alliance when he tossed Roode into Orton, who looked poised to hit an RKO on The Bulgarian Brute. However, with WrestleMania looming, The Apex Predator had no patience for the accidental contact, and after a bit of a shoving match, Orton connected with an RKO that laid out The Glorious One. This distraction proved costly, as Rusev caught The Viper flush with a kick to the jaw and secured the major pinfall over the United States Champion.

After being approached by Mahal in the backstage area after the match, Rusev declared that his victory over Orton granted him entry into the United States Title Match at WrestleMania, a notion SmackDown LIVE General Manager Daniel Bryan agreed with, officially making it a Fatal 4-Way for the United States Championship at WrestleMania 34 later in the evening.

The animosity grew between Randy Orton, Bobby Roode and Jinder Mahal

With the WrestleMania 34 Triple Threat Match for the United States Title now official, Jinder Mahal arrived on SmackDown LIVE with the mission of degrading his opponents, Bobby Roode and United States Champion Randy Orton.

Naturally, this brought out both Roode and Orton, who were determined to bring The Modern Day Maharaja’s arrogance down a peg or two. Mahal took great offense to Orton’s comments and appeared as though he was going to lash out at The Apex Predator. Instead, Jinder threw Sunil Singh into Orton and slid out of the ring. Sunil tried to get away, but Orton dragged the faithful follower back and delivered a DDT off the ropes, and Roode dropped Singh with a Glorious DDT for his troubles.

The Glorious One then followed up by attempting a Glorious DDT on The Viper, only for Orton to reverse and try to strike with an RKO. Roode was also able to counter and stop the attack, leaving the two to stare one another down while Mahal just watched on from ringside.

Tensions continued to rise between Randy Orton, Bobby Roode and Jinder Mahal
Randy Orton won the United States Championship for the first time this past Sunday at WWE Fastlane, overcoming Bobby Roode in a highly-contested matchup to become a Grand Slam Champion, though he got more than he bargained for when he suffered surprise attacks from both Jinder Mahal and then Roode after the contest.

The Viper stepped out on SmackDown LIVE to celebrate his victory and congratulate Roode on his hard-fought performance at WWE Fastlane. Before long, however, The Glorious One hit the scene, declaring his intentions to invoke his rematch clause for a United States Title Match at WrestleMania. However, Mahal arrived and claimed he was going to defeat Roode right now, and he wanted Orton to sit at the commentary desk to watch.

Jinder Mahal def. Bobby Roode; Orton RKO’s Mahal
After Bobby Roode dropped The Modern Day Maharaja with a Glorious DDT at WWE Fastlane, and the two engaged in a heated exchange on Team Blue, it was not a surprise to see The Glorious One and Jinder Mahal come out swinging on SmackDown LIVE.

Sunil Singh paid for hopping onto the apron when Roode shoved him into the ring post, but The Modern Day Maharaja capitalized by connecting with the Khallas for the win. The Modern Day Maharaja did not get long to celebrate, though, as Orton slithered into the ring and hit the unsuspecting Mahal with a ruthless RKO outta nowhere.

For now, The Road to WrestleMania remained quite rocky for the United States Title.

Fastlane 2018 Digitals || Fastlane 2018 Screen Captures

Randy Orton def. Bobby Roode to become the new United States Champion
In the leadup to WWE Fastlane, Randy Orton made no bones about why he was challenging Bobby Roode for the United States Championship: It was the one title he’d yet to hold, he wanted to fill out his trophy case, and The Glorious One was just the guy who was unlucky enough to be in his path.

Consider the Grand Slam completed. The Apex Predator slithers into the illustrious club for the first time despite an outstanding effort from Roode, who came into the match with just as much to prove, in his own way, as Orton. The Glorious One traveled a hard road to get to this point and wanted to walk into WrestleMania as U.S. Champion, so he had no desire to cede his prize to a WWE lifer. When the bell rang, Roode opted to prove his bona fides by trying Orton at his own game, chopping away at The Apex Predator with the same kind of quick-strikes and close-quarters combat that Orton used against him.

Randy Orton rebounds from a clothesline to drop United States Champion Bobby Roode with a powerslam: Courtesy of the award-winning WWE Network.

It seemed to be working, too: Roode’s response to a near-miss RKO was to send Orton scurrying with a Glorious DDT attempt, leaving The Viper to fume and, perhaps, reevaluate his game plan in the face of a tougher fight than he expected. Roode found his best footing in the match when he turned on the jets, peppering Orton with clotheslines, neckbreakers and, in one instance, a top-rope clothesline that were grouped so close together The Viper had no room to breathe. Whenever Orton got going, Roode opted for space, giving himself some much-needed time to recover and strategize.

It was when Roode turned into the aggressor that he played his way right into Orton’s hands. By pursuing The Viper outside the ring, Roode found himself thrown into the barricade and dropped on top of it. His later attempts to go big led to both the showdown’s defining moment — a superplex so textbook that commentator Byron Saxton called for a second instant replay — and its conclusion, when The Glorious One leapt headfirst into the waiting jaws of a match-ending RKO.

That maneuver handed Orton the championship, but the end of the contest only intensified the drama that has swirled over the U.S. Title as of late. Jinder Mahal, who has christened himself the “Uncrowned United States Champion” thanks to his recent wins over both Orton and Roode, confronted the new champion and attacked him mercilessly until Roode dispatched him with a Glorious DDT. Roode then administered the same maneuver to a beaten Orton as well before leaving in frustration. So Mahal makes his presence known. Roode gets the last word in defeat. And having worked 16 years for this particular prize, Orton may yet find that he’s hit his Grand Slam into a very crowded field.

Jinder Mahal def. Randy Orton
With his first-ever clash against Randy Orton occurring at WWE Fastlane on Sunday, United States Champion Bobby Roode took his seat at ringside to scout The Viper from the announce desk. In Orton’s way, however, was the man who caused the initial rift between The Apex Predator and The Glorious One and the Superstar who thought he was being deprived of the United States Title opportunity this Sunday, Jinder Mahal.

The Viper and The Modern Day Maharaja rekindled their rivalry with a hard-hitting contest. Roode unwillingly became involved in the bout when Orton hurled Mahal right into the United States Champion at the announce table, knocking him to the floor.

Back in the ring moments later, Orton looked ready to strike and finish off The Modern Day Maharaja with an RKO, but an angry Roode hopped onto the ring apron to take issue with Orton, allowing Mahal to shove The Viper into Roode before finishing him off with a ring-shaking Khallas for a statement win.

Jinder Mahal delivers a “Roode Awakening;” Randy to Challenge Bobby Roode for U.S. Title at WWE Fastlane
With the animosity between Jinder Mahal, United States Champion Bobby Roode and Randy Orton continuing to build, Mahal (flanked by Sunil Singh) arrived on SmackDown LIVE with a copy of what he claimed to be Roode’s SmackDown LIVE Top 10 Superstars List ballot. The Modern Day Maharaja declared that Roode voted for himself at number one and had neither Mahal nor Orton on it. Mahal used this piece of information to try and drive the wedge further between The Glorious One and The Viper, claiming that it’s clear that Roode has no respect for The Apex Predator.

Not thrilled with these assertions, the United States Champion interrupted, suggesting that he saw through Mahal’s plan to pit him and Orton against each other simply as a means for Jinder to carve out an easier path to the United States Title. This led to a heated exchange between Roode and Mahal that Orton soon broke up with his arrival.

Without saying a word, The Viper stepped to Roode, and a brawl soon erupted. Orton punched Mahal, which Roode followed up by clotheslining Mahal over the top rope. The Apex Predator then went to RKO The Glorious One, but Roode turned it around into a Glorious DDT. The United States Champion stood tall, but only for a moment, as The Modern Day Maharaja slid back into the ring and dropped Roode with the ring-shaking Khallas.

For the second straight week, Mahal left his foes down. If Roode and Orton weren’t taking notice before, they surely are now. However, Mahal may not exactly have SmackDown LIVE management taking notice, or at least Shane McMahon, as after this dominant display, Shane decreed that it would be Roode vs. Orton for the U.S. Title at WWE Fastlane, overruling Daniel Bryan’s idea to give The Modern Day Maharaja a championship opportunity.
